The crash took place in North Sea, a hamlet of Southampton, around 5 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27.
The incident occurred when the driver of a 2017 Mercedes Benz apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole on Noyac Road and Fish Cove Road, said Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton Police.
The vehicle overturned and the driver was ejected from the vehicle seriously injuring the driver, Ralph said.
Officers were dispatched to the scene along with Southampton Volunteer Ambulance and the North Sea Fire Department.
A Southampton paramedic arrived first on the scene and applied two lifesaving tourniquets to the victims’ legs, Ralph added.
The victim, Louis Napolitano, age 40, of Center Moriches was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital by Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit for further care.
Southampton Town Police Detective Division responded to investigate the cause of the crash.
